Day 1: Lusaka - Chikoko Trails

On arrival in Lusaka you will be ushered to your light aircraft to catch a flight to Mfuwe, the gateway to the South Luangwa National Park. The flight is approximately an hour and you will feel the excitement set in as before your eyes as the urban jungle of the capital city is transformed into a vast, African wilderness. Upon landing, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred by open game viewer to Chikoko Tree Camp.

Day 3: Walk from Chikoko Tree to Big Lagoon Camp

Today you will arrive on foot for the next Camp on your walking safari. Luggage and supplies are portaged to camp along a separate route.

Day 5: Big Lagoon Camp to Tafika

Your early morning walk from Big Lagoon will take you to the crossing point on the Luangwa River where you will meet a game viewer for a short drive to Tafika Camp.

Day 7: Tafika to Tusk & Mane

After six nights exploring the Luangwa Valley it’s time to say goodbye to the team at Remote Africa Safaris. You will be transferred in a light aircraft to your next destination, the Lower Zambezi Valley. This is an incredibly scenic flight as your pilot takes you over the escarpment and winds down into this magnificent valley. Upon landing, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred by open game viewer to Tusk & Mane Safaris.

Day 11: Tusk & Mane to Lusaka

After breakfast and an optional short activity, you will be transferred to Jeki airstrip where you will catch a flight from there to Lusaka or to your next safari destination.

The Lower Zambezi National Park

The Lower Zambezi valley arguably offers the most varied safari experience in Zambia. Visitors to any of the stunning camps in and outside the National Park can choose from game drives, bush walks, canoe safaris, boat cruises or tiger fishing as a means to experience this wilderness. The interaction of the wildlife and the river is extensive and as you progress deeper into the year, so the game congregates along or near the available water.

The Lower Zambezi offers an extensive population of elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard with the large herbivores being present in excellent numbers and occupying the river bank and islands with monotony. The lion numbers are stable and Lower Zambezi has a great leopard population aided by the abundance of prey, large trees and conservation protection.

Day 1: Maun - Mboma Island

On arrival in Maun you will be ushered to your light aircraft to catch a flight to Xakanaxa Airstrip in the Moremi Game Reserve. The flight is approximately 35 minutes. As you leave Maun you will witness the dry Kalahari landscape transform into the vast, inland Delta. Upon landing, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred by open game viewer to Mboma Island Camp.

Day 4: Depart for Nokonyana

After three nights, it’s time to say goodbye to the team at Mboma Island Camp. You will be transferred in a light aircraft to your next destination, the beautiful Khwai. Flying time is approximately 30 minutes. Upon landing, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred by open game viewer to Nokonyana.

Day 7: Depart for Mopiri Camp

After breakfast and an optional short activity, you will be transferred to Khwai airstrip where you will board a charter flight to Mopiri Camp in the Okavango Handle. Flying time is approximately 30 minutes. Upon landing, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred by open game viewer to Mopiri.

Day 10: Depart for Maun

Today you will depart Mopiri Camp for Maun. The schedule charter flight is approximately 30 minutes.

The Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is a vast wetland area located in Botswana, Southern Africa. It is one of the world’s largest inland delta systems and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. The delta covers an area of around 16,000 square kilometers and is fed by the Okavango River, which originates in the highlands of Angola and flows into the Kalahari Desert.

The Okavango Delta is renowned for its spectacular scenery and diverse wildlife. It is home to over 200 species of mammals, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, crocodiles, and numerous species of antelope. Day 5: Travel to Vundu Camp

After an early breakfast, you will depart Bumbusi for a transfer to Robins Airstrip where you will catch a charter flight to Mana Pools National Park. A member of the Vundu team will be there to collect you for your short drive to camp.

Day 9: Travel back to Vic Falls

After breakfast and an optional short activity , you will be transferred to Mana Pools airstrip where you will catch a flight from there to Victoria Falls Airport.

Hwange National Park is situated in western Zimbabwe and is the country’s premier game reserve. With easy road and flight access from both Victoria Falls and Bulawayo, the reserve is extremely popular with both local and international tourists. Hwange is renowned for its huge elephant and buffalo herds, sable and other rare antelope as well as an excellent concentration of large predators including lion, leopard, wild dog, hyena, and cheetah. Birders will find plenty to keep them busy with over 400 species of birds recorded and the park is especially known for its spectacular sunsets. At almost three million acres, Hwange is a huge wilderness area open to Botswana on its western side, allowing wildlife to traverse across countries and making it extremely valuable for the conservation of large mammals like elephant, lion, and buffalo.

Mana Pools is an almost 500,000 acre national park and one of the most iconic in all of Africa. A photographer’s paradise, its beautiful setting of endless Ana forests along the Zambezi River provides a scenic backdrop for a huge variety of wildlife that congregate here in the dry season.

Mana means “four” in the local Shona language and refers to four permanent pools that are a mecca for game viewing. Activities are mostly conducted along the river area with some of the best walking in all of Africa. You can get up close to big elephant bulls or even follow African wild dogs on the hunt. Enjoy a slow game drive or take a canoe or boat to see huge pods of hippos, along with a plethora of bird species including the African fish eagle. Fishing is excellent and there is no better place to watch endless wildlife activity while winding down the day with a drink in hand.

Day 1: Arrival

Your safari can begin by road or air charter from either Lusaka OR Livingstone driving into the Kafue.

Day 1 - 4: Plains Camp

Assuming you depart from Livingstone, your first 3 nights will be at Nanzhila Plains in the Southern part of the park.

Day 4 - 7: Lake Camp

After 3 nights at Plains Camp, you will be transferred to Nanzhila Lake Camp on the shoreline of Lake Itezhi-tezhi for a 3 night stay at the secluded Lake Camp.

Day 7 - 10: Kaingu Safari Lodge

Your final 3 nights are on the Kafue River at Kaingu Safari Lodge enjoying the river based canoeing and game viewing on offer.

Day 10: Departure

On your final day, you will be transferred back to Lusaka in time for your departure flight.

Please note – this entire itinerary can be done in reverse order.

About the Kafue National Park

The Kafue National Park was established by the legendary Norman Carr in the 1950s and is Zambia’s oldest and largest national park. Covering a massive 22,400 km2 (8,650 mi2), the park is dominated by Miombo woodlands and interspersed with seasonal floodplains, rivers, and dambos – the dry riverbeds that provide seasonal refuge for the wide variety of wildlife. In fact, Kafue boasts more species than any other park south of the Congo.

Wildlife sightings can be very good with large herds of lechwe and buffalo in the floodplains, alongside all the predators of which lions are very well represented. There is also excellent birdlife.

This package begins in Livingstone with a 3 hour road transfer to Dundumwezi Gate where you will be met by the Nanzhila Plains safari team who will drive you into camp.

Day 4: Plains Camp - Lake Camp

After 3 nights at Plains Camp, the Nanzhila team will drive guests to Lake Camp. Drive time approximately 2 – 2.5 hrs.

Day 4 - 7: Lake Camp

After 3 nights at Lake Camp, guests will be transferred to Lusaka. Drive time approximately 4 – 4.5 hrs.
