*PLEASE NOTE: This package can be booked in the reverse order as well
Day 1 : River Crossing Lodge, windhoek
Upon arrival at Windhoek International Airport, you will collect your 4×4 vehicles and drive 3 km’s to River Crossing Lodge, conveniently located on a 6500 hectare game reserve, just outside the city centre. You may even be able to get in an afternoon game drive, some horse riding or a guided walk before witnessing your first holiday sunset from the deck that overlooks the beautiful city of Windhoek.
Day 2 – 4: Namib Desert Lodge, Sossusvlei
On day 2 of your self-drive Namibian adventure, you will travel approximately 285 km’s towards the Namibian coastline in a westerly direction, where you will overnight at Namib Desert Lodge which lies at the foot of ancient fossilised dunes. A sunset or early morning drive through the red dunes exploring the sand masterpiece is breathtaking and highly recommended. Or alternatively you can drive to the top of the ridge and watch as the sand is illuminated in gold as the sun begins to set, extending its glow from the soft dunes around you to the green riverine trees and the purple-blue mountains in the distance.
Day 4 – 7: Desert breeze lodge, Swakopmund
On day 3 of your Namibian adventure, you will drive northwards nearing the Western coastline towards Swakopmund. You will travel through Walvis Bay, where a well earned rest and stock up of supplies is recommended before you complete your 5 hour overland trip for the day. Desert Breeze Lodge with it’s prime position above the ephemeral Swakop River overlooking a vast and sensuous apricot dune sea, offers the ultimate desert experience. A short drive from central Swakopmund, its spectacular location provides peace and tranquillity away from the bustling town, and the privilege of savouring the ancient Namib Desert. Enjoy the numerous activities that this town has on offer; try everything from sand boarding and hot air balloon trips over the Sossusvlei to scavenger hunts in the desert for the “small five”.
Day 7 – 9: Mowani Mountain Camp, Damaraland
A long drive awaits you this morning as you set out for the Mowani Mountain Camp, approximately 500 km away into the heart of Damaraland, Namibia. In the heat, dust and stunning landscapes of Damaraland, this sanctuary is dwarfed by massive ochre boulders, and is absorbed into the landscape, making it one with our shared history of life in this prehistoric land. Explore the rock paintings in nearby Twyfelfontein, look for the rare desert adapted elephants or simply refresh at the pool after a long overland trip from Swakopmund.Your second last day in Namibia is a self-drive trip back to Windhoek of approximately 530 km’s. Once again you will overnight at River Crossing, so that you are in close proximity to the Windhoek International Airport.
